A mysterious inheritance from a mostly forgotten great uncle. What else could it mean but adventure?

Miss Mildred Percy is a spinster, living with her sister and taking care of the children. Adventure and life beyond her small town seem impossible. Until she realizes that the stone that she received... wasn't a stone it was an egg.

Charmingly well written this story is told primarily from the perspective of Miss Percy, after the events of the story. Adding in little fourth wall breaks makes this story charming and delightful to read.

My only qualms with this story is the antagonists. Mr. Hawthorne and Miss Percy's niece Belinda. I don't love their relationship/ how fast it develops. We get to see part of it through Mr. Hawthorne's perspective but without Belinda's it feels like it happens too fast and we're missing something. They go from 0-100 in the span of about three days.

In contrast Miss Percy and Mr. Wiggins relationship ( the local Vicar) I adore. They are wonderful friends and the relationship fills natural and organic.

All in all a lovely book that was a joy to read.
