Jess Abbot's world shattered when she lost her son Chance. After she meets Lucy and Star life begins to change and its time for these loose ends to get tied up.

Jess's decision to move to Pine Lake wasn't so much of a decision as chance. Running out of gas right in front of a tiny little shop, brought her a new job as a caretaker for a very feisty, slightly magical, crossword obsessed, elderly lady by the name of Lucy. As Jess is settling into her new life, in comes Star. Star is a runaway the same age as Chance would be now, who's past is intertwined with Jess.
This is by far one of the best books I read in September. The story grips you and makes you feel for Jess and Star everything that they've been through. Watching Lucy as she helps them realize why they've been brought together.
Every character is well written; Jess a mom shatter by grief, Star homeless and afraid to go back to the system, Lucy a little out there but has the biggest heart, no character is too small in this book.
I highly recommend reading this book, it talks about grief and loss in a very real and powerful way. I look forward to seeing what Melissa Payne comes up with next.
