‘Words can’t be unsaid or unheard, once spoken.’

Max Wolff is a committed soldier of the Reich. So when he is sent home wounded, only to discover that his mother is sheltering two young Jewish women in their home, he is outraged. His entire life he has tried to be the perfect German Citizen, to make up for his fathers Anti-Hitler imprisonment in his youth. However his decision to not turn the girls in changes his life drastically.

This is a historical fiction that takes place during WWII. It switches POV's between Max our Nazi soldier and Lola one of the Jews hidden in his mothers home. Lola is extremely brash and abrasive at the beginning of the story

This was a good story but it's not without its problems. It falls into the trap of having a very fervent Nazi soldier change his mind and fall in love with the girl in the attic. This is one of those things that while I'm sure happened, it's still a bit much.

One of the things I thought this book did well was the descriptions of how regular Germans were treated during the war. The book described how everyone was displaced after parts of the country were bombed, the terror and realization that people are dead and what they're hearing on the radio just might not be true. The panic of people fleeing their homes when they are no longer safe, and the fact despite everything falling apart they are still blaming their misfortune on the Jewish people.

This wasn't my favorite WWII historical fiction but it is still worth a read. As of when this is going up it is on Kindle Unlimited if you are interested in checking it out.

Thanks for the review. I actually haven't heard of this one. I have read so many WWII books in the past. I'll have to check this one out.
