Dreams of smokestacks and scary doctors plague the Aizenberg family. A family of Jews living in Poland before the events of WW2. Naomi and her daughter Perle are both twins and share the gift for prophetic dreams. Now these dreams have become nightmares.

In this first entry in the Auschwitz Twins trilogy. It focuses on the Aizenberg family their daily lives before the world goes crazy. It flips between time period and a few different perspectives.

The book mostly follows Naomi in her mostly loveless arranged marriage and her secret affair.

Honestly with the name of the series I expected this to be set during the worst of the Holocaust in a concentration camp. In reality this first book just reminds us that Jews, the people persecuted the most harshly during the holocaust were just that. People. They had hopes and dreams and lives and love and affairs. Only to be treated as inferior and to be eliminated.

I really enjoyed this. It's a really good historical fiction and I also like how it set up for the next book in the story.
