Let me be clear: I never intended to raise my brother from his grave, though he may claim otherwise. If there's anything I've learned from him in the years since, it's that the dead hide truths as well as the living. Tea has always admired the Asha, never dreaming that she would be one of the rarest... A Dark Asha. This was our book club book for the month of October and I think it was a pretty good pick.

This book is split between two time periods. The past where we see Tea's training and how she becomes an Asha and the present where Tea and a Bard discuss how she ended up exiled. I love the cheeky little snippets from Tea before the next chapter. It really lets you get a feel for her personality.

Fox is Tea's older brother turned familiar. He was a soldier who died fighting a Deva and was the catalyst for Tea's powers being revealed. I like that he provides a steady person in contrast to Tea's chaos.

I like the magic system and the way's that the Dark Asha have to kind of work around the system and get creative due to not having access to the elemental runes that the other Asha have. They do have their on unique runes but far fewer.

This is very much a first book in the series as it has a ton of set up details with very little payoff. The way it ends it seems that book two is also going to have some more setup due to the fact the past hasn't caught up to the present yet. I have so many unanswered questions that I need to read the sequel right now.
