Redwall Abbey, tranquil home to a community of peace-loving mice, is threatened by Cluny the Scourge savage bilge rat warlord and his battle-hardened horde. But the Redwall mice and their loyal woodland friends combine their courage and strength. Matthias must face his destiny to save his home.

When I was younger I remember watching the animated Redwall TV show and loving it. Imagine my surprise and delight when I realized that there was a book series it was based on. (A series that has over twenty books I might add.)
To me this book was a mix of childhood nostalgia and joy from how well its written. I would find moments that I remembered from the show really well (Assmodeouss), and things that were entirely new that either I just didn't remember or hadn't been in the show. This book was wonderful and has kind of spoiled some parts of the show for me going forward.
I love seeing Matthias grow throughout the book. Seeing everything that he faces and comes up against and how he handles it all. This book may be geared toward middle-grade readers but I think that everyone could benefit from reading.
Also despite being part of a larger saga is completely self contained. Which honestly is something I really appreciate. Knowing that there is more to explore in the world but being able to take my time going through it and not feeling rushed.
One of the really strong points of this book has amazing descriptions of food that will make your mouth water. It also adds in dialects for different kinds of creatures. From the moles to the sparrows everyone had their own way of communicating.
I highly recommend for any one and everyone.
