Life is defined by your before and how you handle the after. Nena Knight has to confront her past to protect the future that she has built with the help of the family that took her in as on of their own. As an assassin for the Tribe she's never broken a rule, until now.

This book is not for the faint of heart. There are depictions of violent murder, and sexual assault. Both are completely relevant to the story and help establish the main antagonist as the monster that he is. Yasmine does a great job as treating it as the horror that it is while at the same time not shying away from it.
Personally this book was very middling for me. It falls prey to a lot of the classic tropes to the point where most of the twists were extremely easy to guess. I did like the character of Nena, she was very well written and developed but I would have liked to have seen more of the side characters developed further.
For book two I hope we learn more about the Tribe and some of the other members. I also look forward to learning more about Nena's found family.
