Everyone in the protectorate knows the witch in the woods demands a baby every year to stop her from terrorizing the town. That is everyone besides the witch. Xan just finds the poor baby there every year and finds them a new home. Until one of the babies she finds accidentally drinks moonlight, then she brings the little girl home to her cottage to raise as her own.

‘Knowledge is power, but it is a terrible power when it is hoarded and hidden.’
This story was adorable. The writing is lyrical and fun I absolutely adored it.
My favorite characters are Luna, our sweet girl who became magic. There is also a tiny dragon, he thinks he's a gigantic dragon just like his mom but he's this itty bitty thing and I just love him.
I loved how the magic worked in this world. It could be directed but it was also very intrinsic to the characters. Luna has zero control over her magic so things just kind of happen around her and I love it. In contrast Xan and another character have the control Luna is lacking and their masterful use of it is wonderful to behold.
I highly recommend this story. Its sweet and fast paced and I absolutely adored it. It is technically a middle-grade novel but it can be enjoyed by all ages.
This is such a sweet book.
